RICKSHAW MAN

“WALK OF FAITH”

Allie Stevens is a very unique and brave individual who once had it all! People from California to Mississippi often refer to him as the “Rickshaw Man” because of his unique way of sharing blessings using his rickshaw. Currently, Stevens is trying to set a new world’s record of walking from Oceanside, California to Miami, Florida. As he walks, the former United States Marine has his famous rickshaw in tow.

Before beginning his unusual endeavor, Stevens owned a successful limousine service and was a typical American family man. In 2007, his world was traumatized when his beloved wife of 31 years was taken by cancer, leaving Stevens devastated. Without his wife, Stevens felt he needed to escape. He gave everything to his daughter and took a taxi from Mona, CA to Oceanside, CA to go on a fishing trip. This trip changed his life!

I was there for about three months. People thought I was homeless,” Steven recalled. “They left bags of groceries, envelopes with money, blankets, and pillows. I would give stuff away. It was just amazing.” Stevens then explained that he made an important change in his life. “I decided to give my life over to Christ. I figured whatever I was going to need in my life God was going to supply it if I do His will first.”

Stevens soon obtained a rickshaw and set out on a mission of blessing others, while depending on God for his own personal needs. “That’s how I got started. I painted it [the rickshaw], placed a karaoke machine on it, and started giving people rides down the pier,” Stevens explained. “When I was out there fishing, I realized that there were a lot of people with disabilities and elderly people who couldn’t walk that pier. I used to speak with them regularly, and give them rides. This added to my journey
of giving back.”

Before long, Stevens became well-known around the area, and a feature on the pier. However, there was more Stevens wanted to do. Stevens began an attempt to set a new world’s record. Stevens wanted to walk across the country. He called his journey “A Walk in Faith.”

His first attempt began in 2007. He was hit with a bottle and briefly paralyzed in Arizona. During his second attempt in 2008, he was run over by a police officer, his dog was killed, and he ended up in the hospital. Undaunted by snake and spider bites,
attacked by wild animals, theft, and his daughter’s death caused by cancer, Stevens was still determined to set a world’s record and continued his third attempt that began in 2009 with only 10 cents in his pocket. His trips have been wrought with difficulties. However, nothing seemed to stop Stevens.

“I have always had a decent life, owned a successful limousine service in California, and served my country. I have done all these things, but [Walk in Faith] is the most rewarding thing I have ever done, and I’ve done it without a dime. I didn’t have a penny, but God always provided.”
As his journey takes him across America, from Oceanside, California all the away to Pascagoula, Mississippi. Stevens often stops to visit churches, charity events, meet people from all nationalities, and spreads music along the way, determined to show what God can do. As he puts it, “No matter what you go through, God will stand up and be right there for you.”
